About Mr. Berkstresser

Mr. Berkstresser has lived in various states growing up including New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Colorado.  He attended 12 different schools by high school graduation. While working for the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News driving trucks, he completed a double major in Biology and English Literature from the University of Colorado at Denver. His Science and Introductory English Teaching Credentials are from California State University, Long Beach. He also holds a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University, as well as a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy earned from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington DC.

In Dec 2018 he retired as a Colonel from the Air Force with 25 years of Active Duty service as a Space Acquisitions Officer. During this time he deployed 3 times to Iraq, once to Afghanistan, once to the Balkans, and did 2 short tours in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His domestic assignments included 2 back-to-back tours in the Pentagon, 3 assignments at Space and Missile Systems Center in Los Angeles, and assignments to Vandenberg and Wright-Patterson Air Force Bases.

He served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the field of Agroforestry in Senegal, West Africa. Half way through his service, he was promoted to the position of Peace Corps Volunteer Leader. As a PCVL, he did medical evacuations, site selection and set-up for new volunteers, and ran the Regional House in my sector of Senegal.

His last teaching assignment was at Polytechnic High School in Long Beach California as a biology and Earth Science teacher. He has also taught in Northern California in the Mount Diablo Unified School District.
 
Mr. Berkstressor is married to Desray Reeb, Ph.D. (Zoology), and has two young sons - Griffin, age 5, and Torben, age 2. When not taking care of his boys, he enjoys paddle-boarding, bicycling, and motorcycling. He holds a private pilot's license with ratings in single-engine powered aircraft and sailplanes and is a PADI certified advanced SCUBA diver.
